The Passenger Transport Unit arranges school transport for eligible children aged 4-16 attending their designated school. Transport assistance may also be given to students attending their closest sixth form or college, where the journey is over 3 miles.
We provide free or subsidised transport to school or college for over 11,000 young people every day, including over 2,000 post-16 students and around 1,000 pupils and students with special educational needs.
We provide free or subsidised transport for Primary and Secondary Pupils in accordance with the Council's policies, which are based around national legislation, and there are entitlement criteria against which we assess all applications.
For more information, please see Primary and Secondary School Transport.
We run a subsidised transport scheme for Further Education students aged 16-19 at the start of their course under which transport is provided to students attending, and living more than 3 miles from their designated school or college.
For more information, please see Transport to Sixth Forms and Colleges.
There are some 1,000 pupils transported to schools across Wiltshire who have a statement of special need. Transport can take the form of a car to very specialised minibuses to cater for wheelchair users.
For more information, please see Special Education Needs Transport.
