Housing and Council Tax Benefit Application
About this service
Housing benefit helps tenants on low incomes to pay their rent.
Council tax benefit can be claimed if you are the liable person eg. named on the council tax bill. If you are not entitled to benefit in your own right, you may still be able to get help in the form of a second adult rebate, based on the total household income but excluding the liable person’s income.
If you have in excess of £16,000 in savings and capitals, you are not eligible for Housing/Council Tax Benefit.
If you apply for Pension Credit, Employment & Support Allowance (ESA), Income Support or Jobseeker’ Allowance you should have forms in your pack to claim Housing and Council Tax Benefit.
Important
- You should still make a claim for these above benefits if you receive them. Any delays in applying could cause loss of Benefit.

Collect a form from your local office; or
To get an application form online you need to first make contact with the team covering the area for which you are claiming. You can do this you must fill out a "First Point of Contact Form" from one of the area tabs below, if you do not know which area you need use the post code selector. You will then be able to download the application form.
