Discretionary housing payment
About this service
The service replaces the old Exceptional Circumstance Payments and Exceptional Hardship Payments. It is intended to help claimants who are receiving Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Benefit but the amount they are receiving does not cover the full rent and/or Council Tax they are charged.
The award is at the discretion of a panel of non benefit assessment officers.
There is no appeal system against the decision.
Eligibility
- To apply you must already be on Housing or Council Tax benefit.
