If you are in need of sheltered housing or housing support there are many different types of services available across North Wiltshire which are intended to allow people to live more independently in the community. A list of Support Providers can be obtained from the Supporting People website. Supporting People is a programme set up by Communities and Local Government to provide low level, appropriate housing related support to vulnerable people.

Floating Support

Community 4 is a free, confidential and independent service in partnership between: Westlea Housing, Splitz Support Services, Drugs and Homelessness Initiatives and Alabare Christian Care Centres. They provide housing related one-to-one support throughout Wiltshire to anyone aged 16+.

Support Services Available:

  • Understanding your housing rights and responsibilities
  • Liaising with other organisations who may be able to support you
  • Support resettling into a new home
  • Developing independent life skills
  • Help with financial difficulties
  • Resolving problems with neighbours

Home Improvement Agency

Ridgeway Care & Repair help older, vulnerable and disabled people to remain living in their own homes. They offer advice and practical support with organising repairs, improvements and home adaptations as well as project managing building extensions.

Care & Repair also run 'Handihelp', a not-for-profit scheme that is reliable and affordable. They offer help with small tasks around the home, such as mending a tap, replacing a light bulb, fixing a smoke alarm and other odd jobs.

Lifeline Service

The Lifeline service is a community alarm system which provides peace of mind 24 hours of the day. It is available to anyone in social, privately owned and rented homes. It provides the reassurance to enable clients to remain living in their own homes. Help is at hand via the use of a pendant which is worn by the client, or a pull cord situated in the property. The Scheme is managed by Eldercare who can be contacted on 01706 228062. An alarm system for victims of domestic violence has also been developed in connection with the police.

South

About this service

Our Sheltered Housing schemes give older people the opportunity to live independently in the community with a level of support agreed with them.

The Council has 22 schemes across the district, providing support cover five days a week, 9:00am-5:00pm by a mobile Housing Support Officer (HSO).

Housing Support Officers visit daily to deliver support services and welfare checks.

Most schemes have a range of communal facilities including a residents lounge, laundry facilities and guest rooms.  A variety of accommodation is available from studio flats to bungalows including flats within secure schemes.

All properties are connected to the CareConnect service, offering 24-hour emergency support.

You will need

  • Completion and assessment of a housing application form, or
  • To be an existing Wiltshire Council tenant.

Payment

A rent and service charge is payable on a weekly basis. These vary from scheme to scheme.

West

Provision is made across west Wiltshire for those who need housing plus that bit of extra support, for example, sheltered housing for elderly people, supported housing for teenage mothers, and supported housing for those with mental health needs. You can apply for such housing through the Housing Register.
