The Traveller Education Service supports the education of 0 - 19 year old Travellers.
Priority areas for the service are access, attainment, attendance and acceptance. The service works to ensure unhindered access and full integration into mainstream education for Traveller children residing temporarily or permanently in Wiltshire. It works with schools and families to raise the attendance and attainment of Traveller children. It works to ensure that children from different cultural backgrounds are fully integrated and accepted in Wiltshire schools.
The service has a staff of teachers, teaching assistants and educational welfare officers. The largest groups of Travellers supported in Wiltshire are Gypsy Travellers and Irish Travellers. Both of these are recognised as distinct ethnic groups. The service also supports circus, fairground, canal and new Travellers.
