Intermediary services for adopted adults
Where an adopted adult who lives in Wiltshire and whose adoption took place in Wiltshire decides, after having access to their adoption records, that they wish to proceed and try to TRACE birth family members, this work will be referred to PACT or the adopted adult may decide to use the service of NORCAP. Both are registered Adoption Support Agencies.
The adopted adult may feel confident to undertake tracing on their own behalf, and there are other sources of advice including Register Offices which can be applied for.
Meeting with a birth relative after many years can be challenging and applicants are advised to take the process slowly, use whatever advice they feel comfortable with, and think matters through carefully, including potential consequences.
Tracing is a bit like opening Pandora’s Box. Once opened you can’t close it up again!
