Wiltshire County Council (WCC) is firmly committed to the principles of equality and diversity in both employment and the delivery of services and is keen to celebrate the diversity of people who live and work in Wiltshire. This means making services accessible to all and treating people fairly regardless of their Race, Disability, Gender, Age, Faith, Sexual Orientation.
This section brings together existing research & intelligence relating to the six strands of equality and diversity. Its aim is to help Wiltshire County Council and District Councils’ policy makers and service providers write equality schemes that are meaningful and practical at operational level and help them meet their statutory obligations
Note that we are currently unable to present a complete picture across all the relevant equality strands due to lack of data. Many large-scale national surveys and administrative data sources do not currently collect and publish national statistics on the ‘equalities’ groups. So although there are official data sources that contain information to support evidence-based policy making and service delivery, significant knowledge gaps remain.
As information becomes available these web pages will be updated accordingly. These pages therefore represent a work in progress.
This section contains a variety of statistical datasets concerning the equality strands. This list is not exhaustive and it will be updated when new material is released (download statistics).
This section contains a selection of local research and publications (download publications).
In this section a bibliography of regional and national material concerning the equality strands can be downloaded. Most of these items are available on-line, so a key-word search using an internet search engine should direct you to the relevant item (download bibliography).
Contains web links to regional and national data sources.
This document sets out the Wiltshire County Council Corporate Equalities Team ‘classification’ recommendations for data collection, in respect of the six broad target group or “strands”. For each of the strands the relevant equality and diversity legislation that public bodies need to be aware of following has been provided (download guidance).
