Another important resource is the Victoria County History of Wiltshire.

The Victoria History of the Counties of England was founded in 1899 and dedicated to Queen Victoria. In 1947 work began on the Wiltshire volumes. Volumes I to V in the Wiltshire series are on general topics relating to the whole county. Volumes VI to XVII are topographical volumes, containing the histories of individual parishes and towns. Around three quarters of the work on Wiltshire has already been finished. The main aim of V.C.H. Wiltshire is now to complete the remaining topographical volumes.

The Wiltshire Family History Society has resources which may be of interest for local history, especially when researching people and family relationships

Genuki is a good starting place for family history. It has been compiled by volunteers all over the world, and cross-references other useful websites.

Ancestry.co.uk is one of the largest commercial sites which gives access to copies of original records together with family trees

The National Archives based at Kew, have a growing number of on-line resources, including guides to reading old hand-writing and translating Latin, which could be useful for all kinds of research involving historical records
