Private Records
Private records include those of families and landed estates, solicitors, businesses, local clubs and societies. There is no legal obligation to give or deposit such records with a local authority archive service, but it is tremendously important for researchers that such gifts or deposits are made.

An example of a 17th century letter - letters are particularly useful for researchers as they were normally written in the vernacular, ie English, in the period before 1733 when Latin was still the language of the law.
