There is now no access between the west bay and the rest of the house. This may indicate that the 17th century extension was a retail premises completely separate from the rest of the house since at least the early 20th century.

Areas of rat-trap bond (bricks used on their narrowest edges) seen here and in the cellar imply alterations of the 19th century. It is often found in cheaper work in the 19th and early 20th century. In the partition wall to the stair the outline of another truss blade belonging to the early house is seen along with the shadow of a strut bracing it back to the north wall.

To the north from the landing is a glimpse of the lower part of a roof truss where a later extension joins on, and in the doorway is a horizontal timber roughly in the position of a wall plate in the earlier house. This timber appears to be more modern.
