Adults must become members of the Library Service. The usual rules and regulations apply to your membership.

Visitors to Wiltshire can use the system on production of an official form of proof of address or passport.

Can I just turn up?

Wiltshire Online computers can be very busy and it is always advisable to book in advance. You can make bookings in person or by phone up to 8 days advance. Please come to the enquiry desk to log in for your session. Bring your membership card if you have one.

Bookings will held open for 10 minutes. If you arrive over 10 minutes late you may find your session has been given to another user. If you are unable to keep your booking, please let us know so that we can re-allocate your session.

All users are responsible for logging off if they finish before the end of their session.

What if I've never used the Internet before?

You'll find it user friendly, and we supply some notes on how to get started. You should note that the staff are not trained to teach you how to use the Internet. They can suggest some local courses to you.

Is anything off limits?

See the Conditions for use. If you breach these, including accessing obscene or offensive material, or attempt to hack into sites you are not authorised to access, your membership will be suspended and you may face prosecution.

The County Council will record access to Internet sites. Any public access to of prohibited sites may be the subject of further action.

If you deliberately tamper with the hardware, software, setup or security systems on the machine your membership will be suspended.

Is the Internet connection reliable?

The People´s Network uses a broadband connection between our libraries and the Internet. Some Web sites are very popular and are not always accessible, particularly at peak times.

The speed at which information is downloaded is beyond our control. We cannot guarantee that a particular site will be available, or that information will transmit quickly.

Can I send or receive emails?

You can use the People´s Network computers for "Webmail" where the messages are not recorded or stored on the PC. You cannot use our PC's for receiving emails that need to be stored on the PC's hard disk.

Can I order goods and services?

You can order goods and services on the Internet at your own risk. The County Council will not be liable in any way for any queries, complaints, loss, damage or any claim whatsoever arising from third party transactions.

What about printing?

All PC's can print monochrome prints. They are charged at 10p per sheet. Please collect the paper and pay for your prints from the counter.

What about downloading?

You can buy disks from the library for 50p that you can use for downloading

When are the computers available?

The computers are available during the library opening hours. Users are asked to reserve the last three minutes of their session for completing any activity and logging off so that the next session can start promptly.

The last session ends ten minutes before the library closes.
