Victoria History of Wiltshire Reprints

These definitive accounts of parish histories compiled from all known sources are taken from the largest county history in the country. Ideal for the general reader or the academic they are also most useful to family historians whose ancestors lived in the parish. The reprints are attractively produced at a fraction of the cost of the hardback volume containing several parishes.

A History of Devizes

2001, 280 pages, paperback, £11.50.

History of this well known borough taken mainly from Volume X of the Victoria History of Wiltshire published in 1975. Many extra illustrations have been added to the original.

A History of Malmesbury

1999, 230 pages, paperback, £9.75.

One of the oldest boroughs in the country features in this book taken from two volumes of the Victoria History of Wiltshire published in 1956 and 1991, bringing together the Abbey and the Hospitals with the parishes of Malmesbury and Westport. Includes a new article on the Bird's Eye View of Malmesbury (1646) in the Civil War, which appears in colour on the cover.

Marlborough and Preshute

1990, 93 pages, paperback in A4 format, £5.00.

The only one of our earlier reprints still in print this is a facsimile from volumes III, V and XII and includes medieval Priories and Hospitals, Marlborough Grammar School and Marlborough College.

A Millennium Tale of Monarchs, Murder, Mystery and Mayhem

The illustrated research report for a project involving Bath, Bradford on Avon and Shaftesbury. Describes the events and daily life of people in three south western counties at the end of the first millennium.

Wiltshire Time Capsule: life in our county at the turn of the century

2000, 158 pages. Paperback, £5.95

Contains the winning entries from a countywide competition which showed Wiltshire life around the year 2000; the book is full of the stories of ordinary people. Published by Ex Libris Press in co-operation with Wiltshire Libraries and Heritage.

Postcards

Very different from the normal run of visitor postcards these show the history and archaeology of the county. We find that people collect these for the illustration more often than buying them for postal use. These are reasonably priced at only 15 pence each.
