What the Museums Service does
Staff at the Museum Advisory Service cover a wide and varied range of activities including:
- Provision of grant aid to supported museums.
- Provision of professional curatorial assistance to volunteer run museums.
- Advice and assistance to help museums meet Museum Accreditation Scheme standards.
- Advice, assistance and support for cataloguing collections.
- Advice and assistance with designing displays.
- Encouraging development of learning potential of collections.
- Co-ordinating projects involving all supported museums such as visitor surveys.
- Provision of training seminars and workshops on a wide variety of museum related subjects.
- Administering a County wide computer database of museums objects.
- Producing and distributing a biennial Wiltshire Museums Leaflet.
- Producing 6-monthly newsletters available to all museums and Wiltshire County Council Libraries.
