Pewsey’s 25m x 8m swimming pool has served the local community since 1967. Financed by money raised by the residents of Pewsey, it was originally an open-air pool but was covered in 1969 when the rest of the Sports Centre was built.

Swimming Lessons

We offer a wide range of swimming lessons for all abilities, from toddlers to adults, Mondays to Fridays 4pm to 6pm.

Children can commence our swim programme from the age of 3 years old. This young swimming group has 2 qualified teachers, one on the poolside and one in the water to encourage and assist where required.

All our swimmers are assessed and grouped appropriately for their own individual needs, confidence and competency level.

Swimmers have the opportunity to gain a variety of aquatic awards. These certificates will be taken at the discretion of the group teacher and always for the benefit of the individual pupil.

Our aim is to introduce children to an environment, which can be fun and safe, where they learn through play and develop swimming and aquatic skills as the progress.

All the Centre swimming teachers are A.S.A (Amateur Swimming Association) or equivalent qualified and have a wealth of aquatic experience between them.

  4. Three Star Award

These sessions run intermittently based on demand. If you or a group of people you know are interested in trying a course, please register your interest via calling us on 01672 562469.

Taster Sessions

We offer taster (or ‘one-off’) sessions, both in the swimming pool and on the Kennet and Avon Canal, that provide you with the following basic skills:

  • Kayak games
  • How to stay safe

No specialist equipment is required.

In the pool a pair of shorts and a T-shirt will do.

Down on the canal a pair of deck shoes, shorts or leggings and a sweat/t-shirt are suitable.

All other equipment is supplied.

One Star Award

The One Star is held over 6 x 2 hour sessions on the Kennet and AvonCanal. During the first 5 sessions, participants work towards a final assessment in session 6. This will assess their ability to:
