Children's library service
About this service
All libraries in Wiltshire have special areas for children and young people under 16 which include a range of books and other materials to suit all ages, tastes, abilities, and attitudes to reading. Many libraries also offer rhyme times for babies and toddlers, story times, holiday and other activity sessions. All libraries promote the national Bookstart programme for very young children and the national summer reading challenge.
Needs
To join the library children and young people under 16 need to visit the library with a parent (or legal guardian). The parent will need to bring a form of ID (e.g. an allowance book, a bank statement, a driving licence) which contains their name and current address. If this is not possible, library staff will supply a membership form and library card to take home for signature by a parent.
Young people aged between 16 and 18 need to bring proof of name and address plus a proof of age document. Children and young people under 16 who wish to use the PC and internet facilities need to bring their parent to the library to sign a permission form. This form cannot be taken home and cannot be signed by anyone other than a parent.
Eligibility
Membership of Wiltshire's libraries is open to all people living or working in Wiltshire. The Wiltshire library card is valid at any Wiltshire library including mobile libraries.
