Special collections

About this service

The Library and Information Service has access to a number of collections of items which are not on public display. Whilst some will be available to borrow, many may be for library use only or form part of a specialist collection. It is usually possible to arrange access to these items.

The Library and Information Service has a number of restricted/reserve collections in addition to the range of stock you will find at your local library, including:

In addition, please note that our inter-library loans service is very successful in tracing items not held by this Library and Information Service. You can contact your local library for further information.

Needs

It may be necessary to pre-arrange access to some items. Please contact your local library for further information.

Payment

There is usually no charge to access an item belonging to the Library Service in its "home" library. Please contact us to arrange this.

If you are a member and wish to request an item from our stock to be sent to your local library, there will be a small charge. We also make a charge for inter-library loans which have to be sourced from outside Wiltshire. We always ask you before proceeding, see Library charges for more information.

Eligibility

All members of the public are eligible to access our collections, where conditions permit this. We may, for example, restrict access to rare or valuable stock.

We are part of the Inspire scheme and welcome users from other colleges and universities who wish to use our libraries and collections for reference purposes.

If you wish to borrow items, or access our internet facilities you will need to bring your library card, or proof of your name and address, and work or live in Wiltshire, see Our Membership page for more information.
