School Sports Partnerships (SSPs) are currently responsible for delivering the 5 hour offer - provision of 5 hours sport and physical activity to all young people aged between 5 and 16 years old. This consists of 2 hours high quality curriculum PE and then opportunities to access after school clubs, community sport, healthy living activities and lifestyles.

Sports Development supports the SSPs in this target through the provision of coaching, development of club school links, organisation of festivals and development of extracurricular Sports Stars* projects.

Our aim is to work in partnership with the SSPs and local sports clubs to develop and implement a quality sports programme for all children. This will attempt to ensure that their first experience of sport is positive.

Latest government funding reductions have put the future of School Sport Partnerships in danger, and the sports development team are continuing to work with SSP’s and the County Sports Partnership to ensure that provision of key projects such as competition programmes, club school links and out of school hours activities are still provided.
