Bike Week winners get noticed

The winners from Wiltshire Council’s Bike Week prize draw received their prizes at County Hall, Trowbridge on Tuesday, August 3.
Bike Week, the UK’s biggest group cycling event, was held from June 19 to 27. The council promoted everyday cycling for everyone as its theme.
The first prize winner received a GPS cycling and fitness computer to help him navigate and assess his fitness levels. There were also 24 runner-up prizes to claim from pumps to lights.
Portfolio holder for transport, Cllr Richard Gamble presented the winners with their prizes at County Hall at 11am Tuesday, August 3.
Patrick McEune, head of road safety, and Judith Billingham, manager of road safety education, attended with a Bikeability instructor and Mike Jones, NHS Wiltshire’s health promotion specialist.
Cllr Gamble said: “As well as being fun and social, cycling is a great way of keeping fit, is good for the environment and it can help people save money.”
During Bike Week, Wiltshire Council teamed up with local event organisers and road safety associations to encourage people to get on their bikes, have fun, and find out more about cycling safely.
Events included Warminster Wobble’s Festival of cycling held from June 19 to 20 and Chippenham Wheelers’ Midsummer Bike Night on June 22.
People entering Wiltshire Council’s prize draw had the opportunity to win a GPS cycling computer, or one of 24 runner-up prizes, including bright arm and leg bands,cycle pumps, front and rear lamp sets and cycle locks.
All prizes were sponsored by NHS Wiltshire.
Wiltshire Council offers Bikeability training for adults and children.
