Autism friendly libraries

We aim to make our libraries as friendly and accessible as possible and to support customers who may need extra help when they are visiting.

We have created a guide on how to use the library in Wiltshire, if you are planning a visit, or if someone is anxious about coming to the library for the first time. The guide to using the library can be found in the Downloads section below.

If you are attending an activity or event with a child we may be able to provide a quiet space, please talk to staff so we can help plan your visit.

We have developed an autism book collection with titles suitable for adults, children, teenagers and their parents and carers.

Our multi-sensory stories are available for loan and can be requested at any library. A list of multi-sensory stories can be found in the Downloads section below and in the Suggested reads section of the library catalogue.

Multi-sensory stories contain various objects and other items that can be interacted with e.g. touched, moved, smelt, worn, played with; and relate to simple stories. These books are handmade by the charity Bag Books, are presented in a large box and can be borrowed like a regular book.
