All Wiltshire libraries have collections of material about the county, and many of these items can be borrowed. The main collection is the Wiltshire Studies Library located at Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre at Chippenham. This collection includes 25,000 books, 40,000 photographs, local newspapers from 1738, and Victorian censuses for Wiltshire. There is also a large reference collection, which is especially strong on southern Wiltshire, at Salisbury Library.

Library membership is required to borrow library items. Customers need to provide a form of identification, which includes name and current address. Temporary tickets can be issued for short-term visits. Use of reference items is open to all free of charge.

Charges include VAT at the present rate.
All Wiltshire libraries are open to the public. Membership is required for those wishing to borrow items or use Internet access.
