We issue licences to skip operating companies who wish to supply a skip and need to place it on the Highway.
If you wish to place a builder's skip on the public highway you will need to contact a skip hire company. Before placing a skip on the highway it is necessary to apply for a licence from us, and it is necessary to prove that the skip operating company, applying for the licence, has public liability insurance to the value of £5 million.
Consideration is given on an individual basis to each application, and site specific conditions may be included, within the licence, to ensure safety to the public.
Licences are administered from our Wiltshire Highways Partnership offices at Chippenham, Melksham, Marlborough and Wilton. Contact and address details to apply for a licence can be found on the Wiltshire Highways Partnership page.
A licence application form is completed by the company providing the skip and proof of public liability insurance to the value of £5 million must be provided when the application is made. Details of location, duration and dates will also be required.
