Demolition job at Melksham Campus site

Any minor construction and preparation we can do now will really help us. People will start to see more and more activity on-site as we gear towards full construction

John Thomson, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for campuses and communities

Diggers and bulldozers have been demolishing outbuildings at the site of the Melksham Campus.

The buildings were knocked down to help get the Melksham House site ready for the campus.

John Thomson, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for campuses and communities, donned a hard hat and visited the site while the work was taking place.

He said: "A project of this scale takes a tremendous amount of planning so it's really gratifying to see work start.

"Any minor construction and preparation we can do now will really help us. People will start to see more and more activity on-site as we gear towards full construction."

Over the past 18 months the first phase of the campus programme has been completed with almost £10m invested so far, including;

  • Oakfields sports stadium
  • Market Place revamp
  • Creation of an outdoor skate park
  • A new cricket pavilion

Subject to planning consent, full construction of Melksham Campus is expected to get underway next year.  When complete, the new community campus will provide a range of leisure and recreational services.

Further campus updates will be provided via the Melksham Area Board.
