Further public meeting to be held as part of Community Governance Review

A CGR must reflect the identities and interests of the communities in that area and also help to enable effective and convenient local government.

Another public meeting is to be held this week as part of the consultation process on proposals to amend a number of parish boundaries across Wiltshire.

The meeting will take place at Melksham Assembly Hall on Wednesday 4 November, 7pm.

Wiltshire Council is undertaking a Community Governance Review (CGR) at the request of a number of parish and town councils. This is a review of parish boundaries and in some cases also the number of seats on a parish council.

The draft recommendations for consultation relate to parish boundaries around Melksham, Trowbridge, Hilperton, Salisbury, Calne, Corsham and Box, Lyneham and Clyffe Pypard, Bishopstrow, Nomansland (Redlynch and Landford) and Devizes.

Public meetings were held last month in Devizes, Trowbridge, Corsham, Melksham and Salisbury.

Stuart Wheeler, cabinet member with responsibility for governance, said: "A CGR must reflect the identities and interests of the communities in that area and also help to enable effective and convenient local government. Consequently, this review will take into account the impact of community governance arrangements on community cohesion, and the size, population and boundaries of a local community or parish."

Public meetings have been arranged for the larger parishes affected, at which members of the public will be given the opportunity to make their opinions heard. In areas where only a few homes are affected, individual letters have been sent to residents outlining details of how they can take part in the consultation.

A working group containing a representative of each political group on the council has been appointed to carry out the review and to make recommendations to the council in due course. Other members may also attend where an item specifically affects their electoral division.

The public meetings are just one element of the consultation. For full details of how you can take part, visit http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/council/communitygovernancereview2015.htm
