Future development proposals for The Maltings shared at public meeting

This is part of the pre-planning consultation and comments received will help shape the future development of this important site in the beautiful city of Salisbury

Emerging ideas to regenerate The Maltings and Central car park in Salisbury to provide a comprehensive retail and leisure scheme were shared at a busy public meeting last night (21 November).

The developer TH Real Estate, shared future proposals for the city centre site that could include a new cinema, retail, restaurants and residential uses creating a thriving riverside development at the heart of the city. TH Real Estate, its development manager Rivington Land and architects Haskoll outlined the principles for development for the site.

A planning application for the development is anticipated later in 2018. The proposals follow a successful bid for £6.1m funding from the government's Local Growth Fund for the scheme.

Marcus Langlands Pearse, TH Real Estate Director of Property, said: "We are very excited to be presenting our emerging vision for The Maltings and some of the many benefits it will bring to Salisbury and the wider area. Constructive discussions with Wiltshire Council and others are ongoing and although we are at a relatively early stage, we know there is a great deal of interest and we want to update the local community as soon as possible with that in mind. We will carefully consider the feedback we receive, not only this week but in the months ahead.

"It is critically important to get things right and inevitably that takes time. Although the intention is to undertake wider public consultation next year, prior to submitting a planning application, there is a great deal to do, not least in terms of progressing complex commercial negotiations. We continue to be very busy behind the scenes however and it is important to emphasise that we will start 2018 with real momentum."

Chuck Berry, cabinet member for economic development at Wiltshire Council said: "It's important that the people of Salisbury have sight of the plans at this early stage. This is part of the pre-planning consultation and comments received will help shape the future development of this important site in the beautiful city of Salisbury."

The event was hosted by Salisbury Civic Society as its annual Open Meeting and was held in City Hall in the city.
