Have you got the skillz?

This is a great opportunity for young people from Wiltshire to show their support for a national campaign while taking part in the nation's favourite sport

John Thomson, Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member for leisure

Wiltshire Council and Swindon Town Football Club have teamed up to deliver Kick It Out events during the October half term in Trowbridge and Tidworth.

‘Kick it Out' is football's equity and inclusion campaign and uses football as a tool to promote inclusion, challenge discrimination and to work for positive change. The ‘Kick it Out' campaign also challenge issues regarding sexuality in sport.

Young people aged between 11 and 19 are encouraged to take part in a number of challenges to become our ‘Kick It Out Street Skillz Champion 2018.'

Events will take place at Wellington Academy on Thursday 25 October, and Trowbridge Park on Friday 26 October, from 12noon-4pm. The events will also incorporate the Ability Sports Programme for young people aged 9-18 years with a disability.

John Thomson, Wiltshire Council's cabinet member for leisure said: "This is a great opportunity for young people from Wiltshire to show their support for a national campaign while taking part in the nation's favourite sport.

"I know participants will enjoy the skills and challenges and the competition element is sure to be hard fought given the prize of playing at a professional football ground in front of thousands of fans."

Our Street Skillz Championship will test young people by posing challenges including the crossbar challenge, speed gun challenge, rebounder challenge, chip bin challenge, keep up challenge, SAQ course and target ring.

Both events will also include tournaments for 14 16 year olds. The winners will compete in a grand final at half time at Swindon Town's fixture with Carlisle Utd in November. Individuals, groups of friends, youth groups and other community organisations are all encouraged to get involved.
