Melksham Community Campus programme gathers pace

An impression of what the campus could look like

There were lots of positive updates to talk about at the area board meeting, and that's testament to the hard work of everyone involved with the programme.

John Thomson, cabinet member for communities

Melksham residents received a recent update on their community campus as the programme of work moves forward at pace.

Wiltshire Council's cabinet member for leisure and communities, John Thomson, spoke at the Melksham Area Board to provide an update on the multi-million pound programme.

There has been lots of activity over the last few months, including:
• A planning application has been formally submitted for the project the reference number is 19/03329/DP3 and people are encouraged to provide feedback via the council's planning portal
• Some changes have been made to the campus design following recent public information days. The changes are an inclusion of approximately 100 pool-side spectator seats, an additional large meeting room on the first floor and an additional large community room/party room on the first floor. These changes are subject to funding.
• The council has gone out to tender to procure a contractor to carry out the campus build. The aim is to have a main contractor secured by the end of the year so construction work can get underway in 2020
• Work on the brand new tennis courts on-site is progressing well with work due to finish shortly

John Thomson said: "There were lots of positive updates to talk about at the area board meeting, and that's testament to the hard work of everyone involved with the programme.

"People seem very encouraged with the progress we're making now and although there's still some hurdles to jump, the programme's in very good shape and we're looking forward to the next stage."
