Find out more about Melksham Community Campus

I encourage people to take the opportunity to pop along to our drop-in sessions to ask any questions they have and to find out more about these exciting plans

John Thomson, cabinet member for communities

Residents in the Melksham area are being invited to find out more about their community campus at two upcoming events.

A planning application for the project is expected to be submitted by the end of March and Wiltshire Council will be hosting two public information days prior to that. For an opportunity to see the plans and talk to the design team, people should drop in to Melksham Library on 5 and 6 March at any time from 12pm 7pm.

The designs for Melksham Community Campus are at an advanced stage and include a six-lane swimming pool and a learner pool, fitness suite, dance studio, library and community hub, sports hall, a café and office space. This will be in addition to the cricket pitch, outdoor bowls and tennis courts which will be located on the Melksham House site.

A decision on the planning application is expected by the end of August this year. If the application is approved then construction work is expected to start in early 2020. The project is due to be completed by mid-2021.

Over the past two years the campus project has also seen construction of the new state-of-the-art rugby and football stadium at Oakfields, the revamp of Melksham Market Place, the creation of a new modern skate park, and a replacement cricket pavilion.

John Thomson said: "We are almost in a position to submit a planning application and that's when we'll really start to see some momentum on the programme.

"I encourage people to take the opportunity to pop along to our drop-in sessions to ask any questions they have and to find out more about these exciting plans."
