Join in the fun on National Fitness Day
Get involved in National Fitness Day 2017 (Wednesday 27 September) by sharing your fitness journey at your local Wiltshire Council leisure centre.
Whether you are a fitness fanatic or just taking your first steps on the road to a healthier lifestyle, National Fitness Day offers the perfect opportunity to share your story and spread awareness about the positive benefits of exercise.
Visitors to all Wiltshire Council leisure centres on National Fitness Day will be encouraged to say ‘what fitness means to me' by writing their thoughts on a placard and having their photo taken. Some of these photos will then be shared on social media to spread a positive message about fitness in Wiltshire.
John Thomson, cabinet member for leisure, said: "National Fitness Day is a great initiative to encourage people to take the first steps to becoming fitter and healthier.
"Our Wiltshire Council leisure centre colleagues can offer expert advice on health and wellbeing, no matter what your level of fitness. We aim to show through this campaign that people take part in physical activity for many different reasons and so benefit in lots of ways."
Wiltshire Council leisure staff will be on hand throughout the day to answer any questions you may have about taking the first steps to a fitter, healthier lifestyle. Anyone setting up a new direct debit leisure membership on the day will have their administration fee waived a saving of £15.
The benefits of regular exercise are well known as well as controlling weight, it can reduce your risk of major illnesses, such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and cancer and lower your risk of early death.
Exercise is also good for your mental health and wellbeing, as it improves mood and boosts your energy.
