New pitches for Corsham Market traders

We've taken these steps to secure a thriving market for Corsham which will preserve that community spirit into the future.

Bridget Wayman, cabinet member for highways

Corsham market is moving to a new patch from 8 August as it welcomes new local traders selling goods and food.

From next Tuesday (8 August) traders will move from the High Street to the Newlands Road Car Park.

The market has local traders selling produce including olives, cheese, cakes, artisan bread, flowers, biscuits, chocolates and pet foods

The new location provides traders and the public easy access to see what the market can offer and is already attracting new traders.

Corsham market, held every Tuesday, was reintroduced to the town's high street in September 2009 by Wiltshire Council, in partnership with Corsham Town Council. The market was the first regular weekly market in the high street for 10 years.

Bridget Wayman, cabinet member for highways said:  "Local markets help boost the community spirit in our market towns bringing in benefits to residents and traders. We've taken these steps to secure a thriving market for Corsham which will preserve that community spirit into the future."

Corsham Town Council Chairman, Cllr Ruth Hopkinson, said: "We fully support Wiltshire Council's decision to relocate the market to Newlands Road to encourage more people into the town - and therefore benefit the great shops and businesses that are here. The town council's aim is to have a vibrant town centre, and a busy, popular Tuesday market will help achieve that."

Corsham is one of 18 markets run by Wiltshire Council. For more details on market days go to http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/community-environment-street-markets
