SEND inclusion strategy consultation

Young SEND person

I am grateful to all those who helped shape this consultation and I would encourage people to go online and have their say to ensure the very best provision for the future."

Cllr Jane Davies Portfolio Holder for Education and SEND

People are encouraged to have their say on long term plans to provide first class SEND provision for all children and young people at school and in their communities.

Local authorities renew their SEND inclusion strategy on a regular basis. The last strategy from 2015 to 2019 included a successful SEND local area inspection and nationally recognised levels of post 16 engagement in training and employment for young people in SEND.

The latest consultation runs until 5pm on Friday 6 December 2019 and will help shape provision for the future.

Following earlier engagement with groups across the county it asks for feedback on a number of priority areas:

  • Achievement and progress

  • Inclusion and removing exclusion in education

  • Inclusion in the community

  • Improving the range and quality of provision

  • Well planned transitions

  • Developing holistic plans which put children and young people at the centre

The priorities are part of the wider vision to create an environment where all children, young people and families will be heard and will have a voice and a choice. They will know how to access support and have the right joined up support so they can thrive in their local and wider communities and enjoy life, reaching their full potential now and in the future.

Cllr Jane Davies Portfolio Holder for Education and SEND said: "We have achieved some important objectives but we are never complacent. We want to build on the good work already ongoing and set out future plans which commit us even further to keep our children and young people at the heart of everything we do. I am grateful to all those who helped shape this consultation and I would encourage people to go online and have their say to ensure the very best provision for the future."
