Tidworth Community Area hosts Family Learning Festival

This innovative event will help young people, in the Tidworth Community Area, find new talents and interests. It will also provide parents and children with confidence in learning as well as supporting children's achievements at school, and raising their aspirations

We have joined forces with the Army Welfare Service to organise a two week programme of free activities and events to inspire a love of learning in family life.

The fortnight of activities from 14 - 29 October will provide a great opportunity to encourage a lifelong love of learning both for children and their families.

There will a wide variety of events and activities for families to take part in, including:

· Circus skills workshop with Wessex Community Circus
· Family pottery session with Salisbury Arts Centre
· Cooking as a family with Anybody Can Cook!
· Human Story Theatre production of Connie's Colander
· Arts & craft workshop with Wiltshire Museum
· Archery with Aim on the Plain

There will be more than 30 free events and activities in the Tidworth Community Area ensuring the Family Learning Festival is accessible to everyone.

Christopher Williams, chair of Tidworth Area Board said: "This is an excellent opportunity to bring both Army and civilian families together with a fortnight of fun activities.

"This innovative event will help young people, in the Tidworth Community Area, find new talents and interests. It will also provide parents and children with confidence in learning as well as supporting children's achievements at school, and raising their aspirations. I'm looking forward to seeing as many people as possible participating in the events."

Joyce Stretton Community Support Development Worker for the Army Welfare Service worked with Marc Read Wiltshire Council's Community Engagement Manger for Tidworth to put together the programme.

She said "This is a really exciting project and it's been great working with Marc and putting together this busy programme. I'd also like to thank all the organisations who have very kindly offered their services free for the benefit of the community."

As well as the events in Tidworth there will be a wider celebration of learning across the county in partnership with Wiltshire's Community Engagement managers and Spurgeon's Children's Centres. Wiltshire Family Learning will be delivering Awesome Autumn workshops, encouraging families to learn together using autumn crafts. These will be held at Melksham's Canberra Children's Centre (23 October 10:00-11:30) and Tidworth's Windmill Hill (24 October 10:00-11:30).

Families are encouraged to book early, join the fun and find out about more Wiltshire Family Learning's training courses. A number of events are planned to celebrate the national Family Learning festival .
