Trowbridge housing project wins regional award

A housing project which is providing 50 new affordable homes in Trowbridge has won a regional award for its great design.
Phase one of Southview Park in Trowbridge, beat 11 other finalists in Bristol this month to win Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development at the LABC Regional Building Excellence Awards for the West of England Region.
The project will now be automatically shortlisted for the LABC Grand Finals which will be held in London in November. The awards are the largest business to business awards in the building control sector and recognise excellent buildings.
The council worked on the £5m housing project at Southview Park with Stepnell Construction, and it produced a mix of 28 affordable and shared ownership properties. Phase two of the development, which is seeing a further £4m investment, will deliver a further 22 affordable housing units and is scheduled to be complete by Spring 2020.
The initiative is in addition to Wiltshire Council's commitment to an extensive affordable homes build programme. With government support, the council is also investing £44m into providing 229 council houses across Wiltshire so people are not priced out of their local area - 158 of these will be complete by 2020.
Richard Clewer, Wiltshire Council's cabinet member for housing, said: "This is great news for the project team, and great news for Wiltshire. We are adding new homes where they are needed for individuals and families who need a comfortable, warm and safe place to live.
"It is 100 years since the first council homes were built providing a much needed solution to real housing need. Here in Wiltshire in 2019 we continue this drive to invest in our communities, growing our economy and meeting a pressing social need by providing more affordable homes to rent and buy."
