Wiltshire Council congratulates students receiving their GCSE results today

They have worked extremely hard throughout their studies and during this time have received guidance and support from their teachers, parents and carers. All involved should be extremely proud of their achievements

Wiltshire students have been congratulated and praised for their hard work and dedication as they pick up their GCSE results today.

Thousands of students from schools across the county are finding out their results marking the end of months of study. This year's results include the new English and maths GCSEs graded at 9 to 1; 9 being awarded for exceptional performance. The new qualifications are assessed on final examination at the end of two years. Next year most other subjects will follow this model.

Laura Mayes, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for children said: "I'd like to congratulate all the young people picking up their GCSE results today particularly as they and their teachers have had to move to a new syllabus for maths and English. They have worked extremely hard throughout their studies and during this time have received guidance and support from their teachers, parents and carers. All involved should be extremely proud of their achievements."

Terence Herbert, Wiltshire Council corporate director for children and education, said: "This is an important day for our young people and these results reflect the hard work of our students, staff and everyone involved in secondary education in the county. We are very proud of what our young people have achieved and I would encourage them to continue their learning either through a formal training programme, further study or one of the many apprenticeships on offer locally."

There is a range of support on hand for young people who require further advice and guidance regarding their next steps including the National Careers Service.
