Wiltshire students achieving good grades according to latest figures

Wiltshire secondary school students are being congratulated on their GCSE and A levels results as the latest government figures are released today (25 January).

This year for the first time Maths and English at GCSE was graded in numbers. Wiltshire students were above the national average with 43.5% achieving a good pass at grade 5 or above in those subjects compared to the national average of 39.6%

There has also been high achievement in the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) which measures the proportion of pupils awarded at grades 5/C and above in core academic subjects including maths, English, science, a language, and history or geography. More than a fifth of all Wiltshire students achieved this high threshold.

Attainment 8 measures the attainment of pupils in eight GCSEs include English and maths. Wiltshire students' Attainment 8 figure was 46.6 compared to the national figure of 44.6 reflecting good GCSE results.

Wiltshire sixth form students have also maintained good results in their A level exams.

More than 16% of students gained AAB or higher grades in at least two ‘facilitating subjects.' These include maths, English, sciences and languages which help students compete for top university places.

Laura Mayes, cabinet member for children, education and skills at Wiltshire Council said: "I'd like to congratulate all of our hard working pupils and the schools which provide the support and stimulating academic environment which helps our young people achieve their potential. Wiltshire pupils consistently achieve well but we are never complacent and we continue to focus on ensuring our students can achieve and are well prepared for the future."
