Bus services
About this service
We organise the provision of socially necessary bus services where these are not provided on a commercial basis by bus operators. We also produce and distribute publicity and information about public transport services and work with operators and local councils to improve the availability and quality of public transport throughout Wiltshire.
Many daytime bus services in the larger Wiltshire towns are provided on a commercial basis by the bus companies, without any subsidy from the Council. However, most bus services in the smaller towns and surrounding rural areas are funded by the Council and on these we are able to specify the times that the buses run, the fares that are charged and quality of the vehicles used. We also fund the operation of nearly all buses at night an on Sundays and innovative demand responsive Connect2Wiltshire services.
We also organise home to school bus transport for more than 10000 students, and where possible, this is integrated with local bus services to ensure that transport in Wiltshire is provided in the most efficient manner.
Area Timetable booklets covering all bus services in Wiltshire can be obtained from us free of charge and we can even add you to our mailing list to receive new copies when they change - for more details please see our Transport - timetable information page. The times of buses can also be obtained by ringing the national 'Traveline' service on 0871 200 22 33.
