Real time bus information

About this service

Real time bus information is now available at bus stops in Salisbury and at stops served by some key inter-urban bus routes elsewhere. Electronic signs show when a bus will actually arrive at the bus stop (not just the scheduled time). The signs will also speak the information when activated with a special key fob.

When a bus is within 20 minutes of a bus stop the electronic sign shows the estimated number of minutes until it arrives. The estimate is updated continuously and so gradually counts down until the bus arrives. If buses are more than 20 minutes away or are not fitted with real time equipment, then the sign shows the scheduled departure time instead.

If you have difficulty seeing the electronic signs they can speak the information to you. You need a special key fob with a button to make the sign speak. You can collect a key fob from the Council offices at 37 Endless St, Salisbury. You may be asked to give your name and address but you don't need to bring any papers to get a key fob.

In Salisbury the signs give information about all buses using the stops. Outside Salisbury there are signs at stops on key inter-urban routes radiating out from the city towards Bath, Pewsey, Andover, Southampton, Poole and Bournemouth. These signs give information about the key routes but other buses may also use the stops, such as town services.

The real time bus information system will keep passengers better informed and encourage people to use the bus service. Wiltshire Council, Wilts & Dorset Bus Co and First in Bristol Somerset & Avon have worked in partnership to develop the project. The real time bus information system is another example of the joint working arrangements which involve major expenditure to deliver improvements to the quality of the services that we provide.
