The railways in Wiltshire are privately owned but receive financial support from central government. The track, bridges and station buildings are owned by Network Rail; the train services are operated by separate train operating companies under franchises from the Department for Transport.
To find out about train times see National Rail Enquiries

Multimodal interchange in Wiltshire
Wiltshire Council encourages travel to and from stations using sustainable modes of transport. We fund cycle stands, provide pedestrian signing and support some bus services that link to stations. In 2009 we purchased land at Melksham railway station which might be required for station access improvements in the future.
Community Action
Community rail partnerships are a bridge between the railway and local communities. They are about positive development and bringing together a wide range of interests along the rail corridor. For example, they may improve bus links, develop walking and cycling routes, bring station buildings back to life, organise art and education projects and special events which promote the railway and its relevance to the community.
Wiltshire Council is associated with other local councils and bodies in support of several such partnerships, such as the Heart of Wessex Rail Partnership, the Three Rivers Rail Partnership and the TransWilts Community Rail Partnership
We are also supporting the Trans Wilts Rail project for an improved north to south rail link in Wiltshire.
