Public transport policies and strategies
Wiltshire Council recognises the importance of a good public transport network in contributing to the objectives of its overall transport strategy and to its corporate goals. It has therefore developed policies and strategies which seek to maintain and enhance the quantity and quality of public transport in the County.
Local Transport Plan
The Council’s public transport policies and strategies are incorporated into, and have a central role in, its overall transport strategy. This is set out in the Local Transport Plan.
The second Local transport plan was published in June 2006 and
covers the period 2006/7 to 2010/11. The public transport elements of the plan are summarised in
Annex 4 - Public Transport Strategy 573kb Annex 4 - Public Transport Strategy.
The policies and strategies cover: buses, rail, demand responsive transport, community & voluntary transport, taxi and private hire vehicles, and education, social care and health transport co-ordination.
There are chapters on:
- Context
- Key aims and objectives
- Current situation, problems and opportunities
- Long term strategy
- Funding prospects
- A five year implementation programme
This Plan also incorporates the Bus Strategy, which the Council is required to publish under the Transport Act 2000.
