About this service
Travel Environment & Leisure have the responsibility for traffic management, road safety and network engineering within the county.
Road safety activities and principles originate from the Road Traffic Act and are based on the three E’s:
- Education
- Enforcement
- Engineering
Wiltshire Council road safety focuses additionally on two further principles:
- Encouragement
- Evaluation
Wiltshire
has achieved significant casualty reductions and is making good progress towards the targets. The latest

in Wiltshire & Swindon, of particular importance is the Road Safety Strategy for Wiltshire
formulated by the Wiltshire and Swindon Road Safety Partnership. This covers activities
concerning collision and casualty reduction to supplement the road safety work of the Government and
other agencies.
