Customer notice

Due to essential maintenance some of our web services will be unavailable between these times 7pm Friday 25 May and 5pm Sunday 27 May 2012.

In case of any emergencies please see our Facebook or Twitter pages.

We are responsible for the maintenance of existing traffic signal equipment including signal controlled junctions and pedestrian crossings as well as the assessment, design and implementation of new signal installations.

We have a maintenance contract with Serco Ltd. Under the terms of the contract. Serco are required to attend a defect traffic signal within four hours for an emergency call or eight hours for non-urgent repairs, between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Report a fault with traffic lights online or use the contact details below.

The use of traffic signals to control traffic movements can result in reductions in congestion, improve road safety and enable specific transport strategies to be introduced.

We are responsible for:

  • 65 junction installations
  • 77 Pelican crossings
  • 6 Puffin crossings
  • 3 Toucan crossings

The justification for the signalisation of a junction are dependent on a number of factors including:

  • injury collision record
  • speed and volume of main road traffic
  • side road volume
  • number of pedestrians and cyclist crossing the main road
  • feasibility of alternative types and layout for the junction
  • engineering feasibility and cost

In addition to the installation costs there are on going maintenance costs.

All requests for new traffic signals installations should be made in writing.
