Wiltshire Council is to begin construction of an inbound bus lane on Downton Road linking Britford Park & Ride site with the Harnham Gyratory. The purpose of the scheme is to encourage greater patronage of the Park and Ride site through improving reliability and journey times for the bus service. The scheme is to be part funded through contributions from the developer of the Rowbarrow Housing Estate.
Advance work necessary to divert utility apparatus is due to begin in June 2011. Construction of the main bus lane is programmed to start in August 2011 with completion anticipated in December 2011.

How will the Work be Phased?
The main bus lane will be constructed in four phases as described below:
- Phase 1: Britford Park and Ride site to Rowbarrow – Anticipated duration 4 weeks.
- Phase 2: Harnham Gyratory to Rowbarrow – Anticipated duration 4 weeks.
- Phase 3: Rowbarrow junction – Anticipated duration 5 weeks.
- Phase 4: Resurfacing – Anticipated duration 10 days.

How Will the Traffic be Managed?
For reasons of health and safety temporary traffic signals will be required to control the movement of traffic. However, every effort will be made to ensure their use is kept to a minimum. Delays are expected during the course of the works.
