Background
Wiltshire Council is currently in the process of implementing its Local Transport Plan for 2006 -2011 (LTP). The Local Transport Plan sets out a number of transport objectives and priorities based on the ‘Wiltshire Strategic Boards’ (WSB). A key objective of the plan is to seek and develop integrated transport measures throughout the County which are designed to encourage alternative modes of transport to the motor vehicle such as walking and cycling.
Representation has in the past been received from Corsham Town Council and local residents regarding the poor condition of the footways, a lack of crossing provision for pedestrians and inconsiderate parking in and around the Station Road / Stokes Road junction. As result Wiltshire Council has developed a scheme for improvements which has been agreed with the Town Council and work is due to commence shortly.
What improvements are being undertaken?
The scheme will primarily seek to improve the overall condition of the footway in the worst areas, but also includes the following:
- Realignment of the kerbline at the Station Road / Stoke Road junction in conjunction with new waiting restrictions to improve crossing provision and discourage inconsiderate parking.
- Minor footway widening and a new uncontrolled crossing point on Station Road (north-east of South Street).
- A new uncontrolled crossing point and footway link on Furzehill.
- Localised carriageway repairs (resurfacing)

When will the work be undertaken?
The scheme is programmed to commence on the 15th November and will take approximately 3 weeks to complete. Due to the nature of the work it will be necessary at times to use temporary signals to control traffic. We would like to apologise in advance for any disruption.
