Phase 3 update– Lowbourne to Church Street

Forthcoming works

Following the works completed in November 2009 the next phase of the town centre works is due to commence on Monday 6th September 2010.

The works will enhance the footway on the west side of High Street between Avon Place and Church Street with resurfacing to the carriageway between Lowbourne and Stratton’s Walk to follow. The works are expected to take between 8 and 10 weeks.

How will the traffic be managed?

As in the previous phase a one - way system will be in place to enable the work to be undertaken. Traffic may only proceed through the site from the Church Street junction towards Lowbourne.

Local and long distance bus services will again be affected by the works and diverted via the bypass. All southbound buses will terminate at the Market Place at the temporary bus stop which will be re-instated for the duration of the works.

A road closure is required to undertake the resurfacing. Detailed arrangements to minimise disruption during the resurfacing are currently being finalised. Further information will be provided in subsequent newsletters.

How can I find out more about the town centre enhancements?

There will be an opportunity to raise any concerns with the current phase of construction on Thursday 9th September at 9.30am at Melksham Town Hall and at subsequent meetings held fortnightly also on a Thursday at 9.30am in the Town Hall.

Plans and project updates continue to be on display in the Town Hall.
