Wiltshire Cycleway

Cycling along Wiltshire’s quiet country lanes allows you to experience rural England at its best. Rolling hills with spectacular views, peaceful wooded river valleys and prehistoric sites make it clear why so much of the county is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

This guide will help you to enjoy cycling at your own pace, no matter what your ability. The whole 160 mile (255 kms) route has been designed to be cycled in an anti-clockwise direction and can be shortened by using our cross county routes along The Kennet and Avon Canal, through the Vale of Pewsey or down the Wylye Valley. The Wiltshire Cycleway also links to Sustrans National Routes and the South West Historical National Byway.

No matter which route you choose, there are so many attractions to see as you cycle through Wiltshire’s scenic towns and villages with welcoming country pubs and village shops.

Just two hours from London, the south coast, the Midlands and Wales, Wiltshire is an ideal location. It’s also close to other popular destinations such as Bath, Oxford and the New Forest.

To make the route more accessible to people, The Wiltshire Cycleway has been split into 16 sections which can be printed onto A4 paper or downloaded in PDF format. To accompany the coloured maps, there is also a set of written directions, helping you navigate the 160 miles of signed cycleway (please see table below); every effort has been made to ensure that both the maps and directions are correct. However, if you have any comments or queries, please feel free to contact us at transportplanning@wiltshire.gov.uk.
