Using the search form

You can enter a specific property, street, postcode, town or area in the search form. A list of all properties within the search area will then appear. You can click on the specific result you are interested in, or the result that you want the map to be centred on.

The number of results you receive will depend on how specific your search is. For example, if you search for a property by house number and street, the search will bring back a single result.

If you enter just the street name, the search will give you all the buildings in that street. You can then click on the result that you would like your map area centred on.

Change search/new search

Use the search again link to refine you search.

Use the search button to make a new search at any stage.

Print

Use the print button to print the current map view. The system creates a printable map as an Acrobat PDF document.

If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download it by clicking on the symbol below. Acrobat Reader is well-established, free software.

Error messages

Timed out message

What to do if the following message appears on your screen:

'Your current session has either timed out or become invalid. Please click here to go to the first screen.'

Simply start your search again.

This message appears when you are have been in the system for some time – typically 30 minutes – without searching, viewing results or moving around the map.

Java message

If a message appears telling you that you need a more up-to-date version of Java, simply use the link in the message to download a more recent version and then follow the download instructions. Java is a well-established, free programming language that your computer uses.

If there is no link in the message, then go to the Java download page provided by Sun Microsystems.

This message appears because your machine is currently using an older version of Java that is not compatible with the online map system.

No map appears

If no map appears in the middle of the screen, this most likely means that you do not have Java installed on your computer.

You can download Java from the Java download page provided by Sun Microsystems. Java is a well-established, free programming language that your computer uses.

No results appear

The search form and search results open in a separate window. If you are using a firewall with a pop-up blocker, you may be asked by your firewall if you want to allow pop-ups from this site. You will need to click 'yes' or 'ok'.

If your firewall does not ask you if you want to allow pop-ups: go into the firewall settings, find the section for pop-up blocking and switch off the 'pop-up blocking' option. How to do this will vary according to which firewall you are using, but will most likely be a 'pop-up blocking' box to uncheck.
