Development Management determines planning applications deposited with the Council in accordance with national and local policies. The unit deals with approximately 8,000-10,000 applications a year making it one of the largest Local Planning Authorities (LPA’s) in the country.
The construction of new houses, factories and shops, as well as many extensions to houses and changes of use of buildings and land all require planning permission from the Council. We determine these applications, taking account of national and local planning policies, the views of local residents and consultees.
We also provide advice on the prospects of obtaining planning permission and deal with those cases where the Council refuses permission and the applicant appeals to the Secretary of State.
There are 3 area offices based at Chippenham, Salisbury and Trowbridge. Each is staffed with a team of dedicated and experienced professional planning officers, who are available to give help and guidance on your proposals.
