The Minerals and Waste Development Team carries out the council’s statutory functions as the minerals planning authority and waste planning authority for Wiltshire.
Based in Trowbridge, the team deal with all planning issues relating to mineral extraction (e.g. quarrying and underground mining related activities) and waste management facilities (e.g. landfill disposal sites and recycling, composting and energy from waste recovery sites).
As well as determining planning applications for such development, the team undertakes monitoring of sites to ensure working and restoration operations are carried out in accordance with the planning permission, including compliance with associated conditions and any planning agreements. In addition, the Team has responsibility for the statutory periodic review of mineral planning permissions.
The team also attend site community liaison groups, which act as useful forums for constructive discussion between site operators, the planning authority and the neighbouring local community about the operation of a site.
