Shortcuts for planning committee and meetings

We have four area planning committees and one strategic planning committee that oversee the administration of the planning process throughout the county.

View and download past and upcoming committee meeting agendas and minutes for your area:

Development Control have area planning committees every three weeks, dates of upcoming committee meetings can be found on the committees diary page.

There are certain rules governing attendance and speaking at committees in support or against planning applications.

Anyone wishing to speak in favour or against an application at a meeting will need to register before by either calling 0300 456 0114 or 10 minutes before the start of the meeting.

The Chairman will allow up to three speakers in favour and up to three speakers against an application.

Each speaker will be given up to three minutes and invited to speak immediately prior to the item being considered.

The rules on public participation in respect of planning applications are detailed in our PDFPlanning code of good practice 67kb for Members of Wiltshire Council.

There is also a stategic planning committee that deals with major developments that could have an impact on local residents, more information can be found on the strategic planning committee pages

The relevant committees make decisions on those applications that have been referred to it. There are a numbers of reasons for referral but the most common are where a councillor has requested this, or where the planning officer considers that the committee needs to make the decision. The majority of planning applications (around 95%) are decided by the planning officers under what’s known as ‘delegated powers’. For more detailed information you can look at our PDFScheme of delegation 56kb
