Shortcuts for aggregate minerals site allocations

Introduction

The Wiltshire and Swindon Aggregate Minerals Site Allocation Local Plan (“the Plan”) provides detailed local expression to the adopted Minerals Core Strategy in terms of formally identifying land for future aggregate mineral (sand and gravel) working.

The Plan presents seven sites for the working of sand and gravel over the plan period up to 2026; and is the final document in the current minerals planning policy framework for Wiltshire and Swindon. The document takes its lead from the adopted Wiltshire and Swindon Minerals Core Strategy (July 2009) and Minerals Development Control Policies (September 2009); and builds upon appraisals and evidence gathered since 2005.

The Plan was submitted to the Secretary of State on 20 July 2012 for examination and hearing sessions were undertaken in November 2012.

The Inspector’s Report (including recommendations for making the Plan sound) was received in January 2013 and since then both Councils have now resolved to adopt the Plan.
