'Saved' policies of the North Wiltshire Local Plan, together with the PDFWiltshire Core Strategy Wiltshire Core Strategy 21mb, comprise the development plan for the northern parts of the county.

When the core strategy was adopted in January 2015, it replaced many of the ‘saved’ policies in the North Wiltshire Local Plan (see below for an explanation of a ‘saved’ policy). Appendix D within the Wiltshire Core Strategy sets out the current status of those North Wiltshire Local Plan policies that were previously saved. Appendix D indicates whether each of the policies are to be deleted as no longer required; replaced by the policies of the Wiltshire Core Strategy; or will continue to be saved to sit alongside the policies of the core strategy.

An PDFextract from Appendix D of the Wiltshire Core Strategy extract from Appendix D of the Wiltshire Core Strategy 96kb outlines the status of the previously 'saved' policies from the North Wiltshire Local Plan.

What is the status of the Local Plan?

The North Wiltshire Local Plan 2011 was the local development plan for the north Wiltshire area of the county until the adoption of the Wiltshire Core Strategy in January 2015. The following documents are available to download from this page:

The former North Wiltshire District Council adopted the North Wiltshire Local Plan 2011 in June, 2006.

Wiltshire Council inherited the local plans produced by the former district councils in Wiltshire. These remained in place until superseded by policies in the Wiltshire Core Strategy, adopted January 2015.

'Saved' policies within the local plans (see below) were used to inform decisions on planning applications. The application of these policies was based on the previous administrative boundaries to which they originally related.

'Saved' Policies

On 27th June, 2009, the Secretary of State issued a direction setting out the policies within the North Wiltshire Local Plan 2011 that can be 'saved' beyond 27th June, 2009. These saved policies remained relevant until superseded by the adoption of the Wiltshire Core Strategy or superseded by national guidance.

A list of previously saved policies can be downloaded below.

As of 27 June 2009, the following polices were not saved:

  • Policy NE2 - The Swindon Rural Buffer
  • Policy NE3 - Local Rural Buffers
  • Policy NE21- Development in Flood Risk Areas
  • Policy NE22 - Surface Water Run-off
  • Policy NE23 - Watercourses
  • Policy T6 - Freight
  • Policy BD8 - Telecommunications
  • Policy TM1 - General Policy For Tourism
