What is the status of the Local Plan?

The former North Wiltshire District Council adopted the North Wiltshire Local Plan 2011 in June, 2006.

Wiltshire Council has inherited the local plans produced by the former district councils in Wiltshire. These will remain in place until superseded by policies in the Wiltshire Core Strategy, which will be adopted in autumn 2012.

'Saved' policies within the local plans (see below) will be used to inform decisions on planning applications. The application of these policies will be based on the previous administrative boundaries to which they originally related.

'Saved' Policies

On 27th June, 2009, the Secretary of State issued a direction setting out the policies within the North Wiltshire Local Plan 2011 that can be 'saved' beyond 27th June, 2009. These saved policies will remain relevant unless superseded by national guidance or until the adoption of the Wiltshire Core Strategy.
